H.T. Chen & Dancers presents annual seasons in New York City, both at the CDC Theater and at respected venues such as La MaMa E.T.C. and Dance Theater Workshop. The Company has also been caught doing site-specific work at the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center and at Chinatown's Columbus Park.
Cultural education programs can simply entertain, or they can educate and provide an experience that encourages audiences to grow. Suitable for lower, middle, and upper school students, H.T. Chen & Dancers' annual lecture/demonstration series and interactive workshops de-mystify the process of choreography while providing a valuable lesson in Chinese history and culture.
A comprehensive study guide, complete with detailed information about the cultural elements of the performance, suggested classroom activities, and a reading list is available for lower and upper level classes. Groups are limited to 65 to maximize interaction between the students and performers. Groups for workshops may range from 15-30 students.
Educational programming, held at the CDC Theater in Chinatown, typically occurs November — February. The Company can make arrangements to perform for large groups at schools in the Metropolitan Area. Additionally, members of the Company are available to teach dance lessons to after-school students at nearby schools.
