Company Residency at The Yard

H.T. Chen & Dancers was honored to be in residence at The Yard on Martha’s Vineyard, MA, from June 6 - 26, 2011. The company presented performances, daily classes, outreach into the community, and developed a new company work titled Song of the Stone.

The Company Residency and Bessie Schönberg Individual Choreographers’ Residency are the artistic center of The Yard’s programming, and are highly regarded in the field. The residency provides artists with housing, work space, stipends, concert performances of new work and the time and freedom to explore their craft without interruption or outside obligation. A yearly panel selects two companies for the Company Residency and four independent choreographers and eight dancers for the Bessie Residency. Recent selection panels have included Debra Cash, Lucinda Childs, Richard Colton, Blondell Cummings,Carmen de Lavallade, Naomi Goldberg Haas, Elizabeth Keen, Nicholas Leichter, Carla Maxwell, Gus Solomons jr, Linda Tarnay, Laurie Uprichard, Edisa Weeks, Nina Winthrop, and Elizabeth Zimmer. The residencies are supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Jerome Robbins Foundation, Harkness Foundation for Dance, Capezio, the Scripps Foundation, and the Jerome A. and Estelle R. Newman Assistance Fund.
