DEL’s Tracing Footsteps project
Chen Dance Center worked with Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) and NYC DOE to create K-12 curriculum for Tracing Footsteps: Into the Heart of Chinatown-Hidden Voices with video tutorials.

Our dance-based show, with award-winning works by choreographer H.T. Chen, has been cited by educators as “the field trip of the year”. Eight Strokes & the Moving Word Series draws from the company’s rich cultural heritage and dynamic repertory to reveal the culture and history of Asians in America. Through dance and calligraphy, the students are shown the stories and meaning behind the words and dances in an innovative one-hour presentation through live performance, video projections, and an interactive format.
In the unique environment of the theater, children will discover new methods of expression and will leave with a renewed enthusiasm for learning that they can take back to the day-to-day classroom environment.

In the community:
More intensive partnerships with the local community include a 22-week After School Dance Program at PS 42 where the Company provides dance training to grades 3-5, and Early Childhood Dance Classes to grades K-2.
