Cultural Hubsite Information Center

Chen Dance Center unveiled its new Cultural Information Hub at 70 Mulberry Street, 2nd floor, during Asian Pacific Heritage Month on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 11:00am. The current display welcomes visitors by embracing them with an eco-friendly, artistic environment. Upon opening the doors of Chen Dance Center, one is immediately met with the enthusiasm of the Cultural Information Hub. The multi-media bulletin board provides updated information on performances, artists and cultural activities in Chinatown. Weaving the excitement of current artistic events, community updates, and beautiful architecture with the intrigue of our historic building makes the Cultural Information Hub an informative and entertaining space for artists and members of the community. Designed by architect David Hu, the 28 ft display features curved perforated steel, flat screens, and an orange floating cloud shelf for print materials. Curved metal fronds create a canopy over the hall, throwing shadows against the floor and ceiling.

The Culture Information Hub is complimented with the allure of our beautiful gardens outside, the historic building and staircase of 70 Mulberry St., and the contemporary look of our new renovations, making it a modern space within a seasoned building. The theme of nature permeates the refurbished space, with potted trees and a rooftop garden that create a nurturing and welcoming environment for the arts in Chinatown. Two light-activated lamps were recently installed above the doorway arches to provide greater safety for visitors and more visibility for arts programming. We will also soon replace the front doors with a beautiful new set that provides clarity, light, and safety for all who enter here. Funding for this project includes the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, Seedco Financial, and the Ford Foundation.

We welcome you to stop by to take in the beauty of the trees and flowering bushes outside the building, and to gather information on arts events in Chinatown at Chen Dance Center’s Cultural Information Hub on the 2nd floor.

Artists are also welcome to share information with us. If you are a New York City artist, an Asian/Asian American Artist, or if your event is located in Chinatown, feel free to submit information to
